There’s nothing I like more than an elegant lipstick. Like shoes, handbags, or kittens, they seem to multiply in my home, and I can’t get enough of them! New Years Eve is coming, and it’s not too late to treat yourself to a great lipstick (red is always a classic for dress-up).
One that’s particularly elegant is Clarins Rouge Prodige ($24.00). This is a high performance lipstick that not only offers great color and treats lips with kid gloves, it also stick around and lasts. In the past, longwear lipsticks dried out lips and felt horrid on your mouth, but if you didn’t know that Rouge Prodige was a long lasting lip goody, you wouldn’t believe it was a stay-put product. I personally love the shiny, gold cases that shut with a resounding “click!” To me, that’s one of the marks of a luxury lipstick. Another thing I like about this lipstick is the way it feels: it glides on like silk, and feel hydrating and kind to my lips, thanks to Brittany Algae extract that has a high content of omega fatty acids that moisturize and soothe. A combination of vegetal oils helps to enhance the shine and keep the color, vibrant. These oils also stick around as a thin film on your lips, to keep that shine and color, going longer. Ceramides and waxes also smooth lips and keep the color going strong, while they help protect your lips from drying out. And, if that’s not enough to capture your attention, the range of color choices, surely will: Pinks to Plums: Lilac Pink, Rosewood, Litchi, Raspberry Sorbet, Pretty Plum, Mystic Plum, Blackberry; Corals to Reds: Coral Tulip, Sunset, Clementine, Fusion Red, Red Prodige and Beiges to Browns: Nude, Redwood, Copper Brown, Dark Chocolate.
I tried two shades from the earthier, beiges and browns: Nude and Redwood. Neither was shockingly bold, although they were moist and creamy and offered opaque coverage. “Redwood” was deep but not ostentatious–a soft, browned red. “Nude ” offers the runway trend of nearly blanked-out lips. Not really my style, but on the right person with a more appropriate complexion, it would be knock-out stye. There is, however, something for everyone in this colour collection, so you’ll find the right one–more than one–to fall in love with!
You can find these lipsticks at your favorite Clarins makeup counter, or visit the Clarins Web Site.
Another high performance lip lover I’m loving is the Ultra Performance Lip Colour by Babor Cosmetics (srp. $25.00). This lipstick also comes in an elegant, luxe gold case, this time with a little “knob” on the top from which to extract the lipstick tube. Babor’s innovative new formula has a visible lifting effect thanks to a lifting complex of sea fennel, lupines oil, vitamin E and the moisturizing amino acid complex L-PCA. This new formula has a visible lifting effect as it creates a thin film without sticking or just lying on the surface and protects the sensitive skin of the lips from environmental stress while treating and regenerating it. The intensity of the color and the way it slides onto lips with extraordinary smoothness, impresses me. And the color seems to stay on way past many others, leaving a hint of stain behind so you’re never just “bare” until you touch up. It just feels like a little luxury you can afford. You can get yours (there are 17 different shades to choose from), in salons and spas, and on the Babor Web Site
You’ll have to wait until around mid-February 2011 to get Shiseido’s Shimmering Rouge — a line of lipsticks in 13 gorgeous, glossy, intense colors. But trust me on this one — these new lipsticks will be well worth the wait! They are a new creation from Shiseido’s Artistic Director, Dick Page, who tested them on the Fashion Week runways on shows such as Michael Kors and Band Of Outsiders. The long-lasting color slides on perfectly in one swipe from the elegant, slim-line, angled-tipped tube. The formula contains “super-bio yeast extract: to promote collagen production while Shiseido’s exclusive, dual-layer, spherical pearl ingredient helps disperse light in all directions and help your lips look smoother and younger, A Super Hydro-wrap vitalizing DE ingredient contains an oil that blends well with water, so your lips look and feel moisturized. I’ll be reviewing more of the Shiseido makeup and new skincare in a few weeks, but I love the way this lipstick looks so moist, so elegant, and so fashion-forward on my lips, that I have to include it in my big three of new faves. One of the 13 colors I like the most for Winter to Spring is named: “Desire #406.” It’s an apt name, because the fresh, mid-toned red is really on the pink side, adding life to even a sallow complexion–and it works on everyone! At $25.00 each these will be just a little bit of a splurge, come Mid-February 2011, and you’ll want to get them at your favorite department store or at http://www.sca.shiseido.com/
