I used to just associate Tocca with home scents. I reviewed the Tocca “Collette” Candle as a holiday gift idea. But I’ve since learned that Tocca has a lot more to offer. Recently, at an Editor’s event at Tocca’s absolutely gorgeous showroom in New York, I got a chance to sample some of the newest Tocca offerings, including (starting May 1, 2011), a bag of beautifully scented towelettes with SPF 30 sunscreen in the brand’s popular blood-orange “Stella” scent. Each cloth contains a physical sun block (as opposed to a chemical one that some people can’t tolerate) of 8.0% titanium dioxide and 5% zinc oxide, with one wipe enough to offer an average person one-time coverage head to toe. TIP: for best results apply 30 minutes before sun exposure and again after swimming, sweating, etc. Tocca Beauty President Gordon Finkelstein mentioned that he even tested, and now use, these on his children. The towelettes coat your skin, with without being “gooey,” and the blood orange scent will appeal to men as well as women. Yes, they’re going to be pricier than the bargain SPF in the supermarket, but if the idea of blood orange (instead of chemicals or too much sweet coconut) doesn’t make you protect yourself, I’m not sure I know what will, and besides, protecting your skin is priceless.
Also a first for Tocca, although not an absolute innovation, is the launch of the brand’s first Eau de Parfum Roller Ball, in the popular “Cleopatra” scent. It blends notes of grapefruit, jasmine, peach nectar, patchouli, amber and vanilla musk. I love roller balls because they are perfect to pop into a purse to refresh your scent during the day or evening, and they’re not going to make waves at the airport. This one is just $20.00 If you love tote-able fragrances, you’ll also want to consider the 0.15 oz Solid Fragrance in tiny screw-top jars with robin’s egg blue and gold accents and a base ringed with tiny depictions of birds, butterflies, and leaves, and that gorgeous, Tocca crown logo), for just $30.00
For me, the highlight of this event was the opportunity to sample and deconstruct some of Tocca scents, under the tutelage from some of the people at Givaudan, who helped to create them. We tried Cleopatra, Brigitte (inspired by Brigitte Bardot), Bianca, and Guiletta. Each is very different in personality, but I would be hard-pressed to tell you which is my favorite……
….but if I was really pushed, I’d say, Bianca. This scent is inspired by tea time, in Italy, and there is definitely a strong scent of green tea in it. The tea makes itself known almost immediately, and it is somewhat masculine, but top notes of Bergamot, Lavender, Mandarin and Lemon Orpur quickly announce themselves to add a freshness, and a heart that includes jasmine and rose petals (along with the green tea) add a whiff of femininity, while bottom notes of musk and sugar ensure that the scent lasts, really lasts, on your skin. A full sized Eau De Parfum 1.7 fl. oz. is $70.00. It is beautifully packaged in a cream colored matte cardboard outer carton, embossed with delicate gold designs of birds, butterflies, and leaves. Inside, as you can see from the photo, the beautiful fluted, round bottle with bronze cap (also embossed with birds and leaves), speaks for itself.
For under $50.00, you can get a most impressive treat: the Tocca Crema Da Sogno (body cream) $45.00 6 oz. It arrives in an eggshell-colored , hard-sided, “hat box” with gold accents featuring a beautiful mermaid on the top of the lid. Inside, a heavy, clear glass jar with white plastic lid also features the gold mermaid. The presentation is luxurious and dressing-table worthy, but you won’t just put it on display. This cream, rocks! Inside the jar is a super-sillky and sensual, thick, emollient, body cream (with proven hydrators like cocoa and shea butters), that whisks away any sign of flakiness or dryness, while offer a generous dollop of scent. It’s truly a lovely and effective body cream, and the fragrance in it is enough to last without layering (although you can certainly layer with the corresponding Tocca fragrance is you wish). I tried the “Brigitte” scent, featuring sandalwood, vanilla, Moroccan Rose & Ginger. You can also get a tote-able 2 fl. oz. Hand Cream in a flip-top tube for just $8.00.It’s blended with natural nutrients like Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Aloe, Chamomile, and Shea Butter to absorb quickly into the skin. If this were holiday time, I’d call it the ultimate luxury stocking stuffer!
Of course there are plenty of other things you can purchase and love, in a wide variety of Tocca fine fragrances, but we’d be here all day if I went through them all. You just need to go and smell them!!
