I Won’t Be a Loser Now That I Have A TrackR Pixel
By Alison Blackman
The moment the cab pulled away I realized I’d left my bag behind with my red iPod Touch and some other things in it.
This iPod has helped me sleep on noisy airplanes, soothed me waiting in lines, and lets me use my apps when my phone battery has died.
But the iPod wasn’t password protected, and all my personal information was available, at well…a touch…to whoever picked it up next.
Thanks to the honesty of the next passenger and kind cab driver I got my belongings back. But and iPod TrackR Pixel would have helped me to recover it a lot faster. At least I would have know where it was.
What is a TrackR Pixel?
A TrackR Pixel is a device about the size of a quarter. It’s Bluetooth Enabled and uses a smartphone to help you locate anything attached to it.
I first learned about TrackR and the TrackR app when I was given a Bluetooth-enabled Peerless TrackR Cross pen to review .
The TrackR was built into the pen and it worked so well that when I was offered a new TrackR Pixel that can be used on anything, I jumped at the chance to try it.
How Does This Work?
TrackR devices are powered by a replaceable coin cell battery. But the new TrackR Pixel is just 5.6 mm thin and 26.2 mm in diameter.
You can get the TrackR Pixel with 9 different colors: black, white, gray, navy blue, red, purple, pink, aqua and TrackR green (web exclusive!).
You attach the TrackR Pixel either with the included slim lanyard or an adhesive dot.
In my tests, I put on TrackR Pixel on my keychain with the lanyard and stuck the other to the back of my iPod touch with a sticky dot.
First, Download the TrackR App
Before you use the TrackR Pixel, you need to pair it to the TrackR App. TheTrackR app downloaded onto your
Download the free app to your smartphone (IOS or Android) uses Bluetooth®. Then you can find your item yourself, or use Crowd Locate technology to help you find your item tethered to the TrackR Pixel.
Name each TrackR Pixel (you can add up to 10 TrackRs) and pair them with the app. This part is fast and easy.
When you want to locate your TrackR-d item select it from the app (if you have more than one) and hit the green button…it will tell you where it was last seen on the map.
If you’re close enough it will emit a noise that gets louder and louder with bars that show more strength as you near the TrackR Pixel. You can even leave a TrackR in your car to help find it again in a large parking lot!
The sound is loud but helpful (add a custom alarm if you wish). Or turn off the sound and just use the green button icon at those times when you don’t want to turn heads.
The TrackRPixel itself will also flash with a bright LED light so you can easily see it your item with TrackR Pixel once you’ve located it. This light is also useful when you’re trying to find something in the dark. For example, I’ve even located my keys in the deep dark recesses of my handbag. The noise and light make it so much easier!
You can only track one device at a time but you can switch which TrackR Pixel to focus on, in the app.
Let Others Help!
Had a TrackR Pixel been on my Ipod when I left it in the cab, even if the TrackR’s Bluetooth connection was disconnected from my paired mobile phone, TrackR’s Crowd Locate community could also search for my iPod.
Millions of TrackR app users could have been running the TrackR app and discovered my iPod. Then I would have received a confidential update with my iPod’s last known location (you enable this option if you wish).
According to TrackR users help each other find over a million items every day worldwide. It’s similar to Tile or other types of location devices that let communities of users help each other.
With the family sharing option, TrackR users can share items with family members so everyone can help find missing items from multiple phones and TrackR accounts.
TrackR also integrates with Amazon Alexa-enabled devices like the Echo. Pressing a button on the TrackR pixel device can also ring a misplaced phone even if it¹s on silent.
Pressing a button on the TrackR pixel device can also ring a misplaced phone even if it¹s on silent (*this did not work for me).
Not every story will have a happy ending. Someone could still find your property, remove the TrackR and keep something precious to you.
But mainly the items we “lose” are misplaced in obvious places in our homes, cars, offices.
Whether it’s something with potentially personal information or just something you tend to misplace often, an inexpensive Trackr like the Pixel can save you a lot of aggravation and worry.
Don’t be a loser! Track and find your posessions!
