Did you hear that acne stops bugging you after you’re an adult? Well, you heard wrong! Acne can strike anyone, any time. But adult acne requires a little more finesse than teenage skin conditions. Two anti-acdne products I’ve recently learned about will work for everyone. However, I think these unique, pampering, anti-acne products will especially appeal to discerning adults. One is from Dr. Dennis Gross MD Skincare, the other, from IntraCeuticals. Are either of these pricey products best for your skin? Read on, and find out!
Most modern acne medications use salicylic acid and/or benzoyl peroxide. But these ingredients can be irritating, especially to sensitive skin. Sulfur has been used to treat acne for more than a thousand years and it is a key ingredient in Dr. Dennis Gross’s MD Skincare Trifix Acne Clearing Lotion $32.00 1.7 fl. oz. The product features a proprietary, 20% “Tifrix Acne Clearing Complex.” It uses naturally derived alternatives to some of the harsh chemicals that not everyone can tolerate well. The product is made without parabens, petrochemicals, GMO’s (Genetically Modified Organisms), phthlates, sulfates, synthetic dyes or fragrances, or triclosan. Instead, the star is colloidal sulfur, a form of very finely divided sulfur that is used in the treatment of acne and other skin disorders. Willow bark extract helps clear pores (a natural alternative to salicylic acid) while Farnesol (a skin care ingredient extracted from oils of plants such as citronella, neroli, cyclamen, etc.) is the natural alternative to Benzoyl Peroxide. Organic Aloe, Vitamin A, and marine botanicals (smooth and soothe), and Bisabolol (extracted from Chamomile) provides anti-inflammatory & anti-bacterial properties. This particular product comes in a flip top tube, and works as quickly as those with more irritating, chemicals, to stop the blemishes you have, and prevent new ones from cropping up. Yes, it is pricey, but if your skin can’t tolerate acne medications, of if you find that they make your skin too dry (and you’re not a teenager anymore), this product will be kindler, gentler, and still work. That, could be priceless!
I was impressed with the packaging of the Clarity Blemish Repair by IntraCeuticals: a slim box containing a bold, purple and silver-tipped, click-it pen, and 15 individual tips containing doses of treatment to fight blemishes. Single dose of anti-acne treatment is the idea behind this product, that carries a hefty price tag of $89.00 for the pen, and 15 treatment tips (an additional replacement packette of 15 tips is $29.00). But this Australian company’s product doesn’t just help to deal with breakouts, it also has blend of actives that help to reduce inflammation without dryness or flaking. The product should be used twice a day, but considering that the unique tip is designed to be replaced daily to avoid contamination, this could become a pricey consideration,. Still, it has some reasonable arguments that make it a potential “find.” Yes, it works well, and I love the idea that you can direct the thin, sponge tipped applicator just on the zit, and not all over your face. Dry patches-begone! The price means that his product won’t work for everyone’s budget, but it might make more sense if you travel frequently. The discreet and portable pen applicator makes it easy to deal with and it’s made in heaven for an acne prone road warrior. If occasional acne is your issue, you might also consider it as worthwhile, since each tip is sealed and waiting to be activated. Unless you throw out your acne cream every six months or so, if you don’t use it up, you will probably find that the current acne cream in your closet that you counted on to zap your current zit, is now dried up, changed in consistency,or it’s potency is now, questionable. With this IntraCeuticals product, the right, fresh dose, will always be available.
