Men may not admit it often, but they really do like beauty and bath/body products. To get them to try something, however, you’ve got to keep it simple, and satisfying. In 2008. Redken for Men introduced a trio of products developed to strengthen hair and stimulate the scalp, featuring “Mint-Fused Technology,” which The Advice Sisters reviewed in the March/April “What Works” Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion review column. This trio was as hit with our male reviewers. They said it smelled great, and the like the cooling tingle to the scalp. The products also soothe the scalp deal with common hair concerns including dry scalp and dandruff.
Now, in 2012, Redken for Men has introduced a re-do of the Men’s mint-fused Invigorating System. There’s an invigorating “Mint Clean” shampoo and a ‘Cool Finish” invigorating conditioner, both with an upgraded peppermint scent, more foaming action, and a mix of invigorating and soothing ingredients to help maintain scalp balance. The new formula also features protein to strengthen hair and leave it soft and shiny.
The upgraded scent is fresh with soft mint, not a harsh, not mouth-wash-mint. But it will perk up a morning routine, for sure. Being that today is St. Patick’s day, it seems fitting that the bottles are a pearly subdued green! The round, plastic bottles with grey accents and easy to use flip tops have something else that’s nice — for those who just can’t see well in the shower, the Cool Finish Conditioner has a green button on the top of the black flip, so guys can tell the shampoo from the conditioner at a glance. This might not seem like a bit deal, but if you live with someone who wears glasses who regularly calls you into the steamy bathroom to ask you which product is which, you’ll know why this attention to detail is much appreciated.
The new & improved shampoo and conditioner got smiles and thumbs up. The Mint Clean Invigorating Shampoo lathers nicely and the conditioner rinses out clean. It’s satisfying, and simple! Tell your special guy to leave the shampoo in his hair and massage it into his scalp in for a minute (most guys really can manage 60 seconds) to get the scalp tingle that feels like a little treat. Using both the shampoo and conditioner in tandem adds “oomph” to the tingle, too.
The Shampoo is $11.50 for 10 oz and the Conditioner is $12.00 for 10 oz. The duo would make a nice Father’s Day gift (it’s coming up in June). As with all Redken products, you should purchase your from an authorized salon to ensure you’re getting the real thing.
