skincare to start the new year for a newer, better you
Natural cosmetics needn’t be “Crunchy.” A line of luxurious, natural cosmetics comes from award-winning Tata Harper. These products are all natural featuring non-toxic ingredients. They’re hand made in Vermont. The products work on dryness and wrinkles by helping to restore the skin’s elasticity, with a vitamin and antioxidant-rich formula that makes skin softer and more firm. The products also tone and balance the skin. The fragrances smell “natural” made from clinical grade natural essential oils Tata Haper’s All-Natural Starter Beauty Set ($45.00) 100% . If I have any issues with Tata Harper it is with the scents, which are herbal, but also very obvious. Still, you can’t fault the soothing and calming effects of these products, especially the superb facial mask that is good for all skin types. The products in full sizes are pricey at $50.00 to over $150 per product, but there are plenty of trial sets for face and for body like this one. The products are lovely, and if they work well for you, then go and pick the ones you can’t live without. Great skin is--priceless! Visit the Tata Harper Web Site.
Another high end, luxurious skincare set is from Kerstin Florian. The company features European-style facial, body and bath products and treatments for the spa industry based on natural resources, including thermal mineral water, mud, algae, herbal extracts and essential oils. The family-run company is based in Lake Forest, California, U.S.A. and was founded in 1978 by Swedish-born Kerstin Florian, a spa expert with over 40 years of experience in the industry. The company produces over 100 professional and retail products and over 25 treatments. One to try for the body, is the lovely, Kerstin Florian Aromatherapy kit ($60.00), and includes two packettes of soothing Mineral Bath Salts, a small but elegantly scented (and refreshing) white votive candle with “Kerstin Florian” on the clear glass, in graceful grey script, and a really hydrating, 4 fl. oz. lavender scented Body Spray. All are packaged into a lovely and re-useable, hard-sided gray box with ribbon tie. Most Kerstin Florian products range from $50 to $100, and there are specific products for men, too. Visit the Kerstin Florian WebSite, or select spas.
There’s a new product from Dr. Dennis Gross called Active Vitamin D Serum-Oil ($65.00 1 fl. oz.). Vitamin D helps prevent premature aging of skin and damage to the skin structure, and it helps with skin itching and flaking. This product gives your skin a daily dose of Vitamin D, especially important now, because the sun isn’t so strong. In order to synthesize Vitamin D, it must be converted from UVB sun exposure or through supplements and diet. The new, Active Vitamin D Serum-oil contains “Ergocalciferol.” That’s a long sounding name for Vitamin D2. My understanding is that Ergocaldiferol takes a few weeks to show results, when used topically, but the active Vitamin D form has been available only in prescription creams. This new product is available to everyone ande it doesn’t require sunlight to be active. It’s also good for all skin types & ages. Along with Ergocalciferol, this Vitamin D Serum-oil features ingredients such as Squalane (a naturally derived emollient that works to prevent dryness); Willow Bark Extract (to help clear pores and exfoliate); Soybean Extract (to help kick-start collagen production); Ubiquinone (CO-Q10 –powerful antioxidant to protect against free radicals & build collagen); Retinol (to help smooth wrinkles and lines while increasing moisture & elasticity); Salicylic Acid (a Beta Hydroxy Acid that exfoliates, reducing the number of pore blockages while building elastin & collagen); Lactic Acid (naturally-occurring Alpha Hydroxy Acid that helps speed up cell turnover); Glycolic Acid (reduces visible signs of aging); Linoleic Acid (to help rebuild cells and produce new one, also helps to deliver Vitamin C under the skin to avoid irritation); Hyaluronic Acid Spheres: (provides time-released hydration); Arbutin (lightens dark circles/spots and brightens skin; inhibits melanin production); Ferulic Acid (plant-based antioxidant that enhances properties of other vitamins for healthy skin); and Peptide ( a protein derivative that firms & tones the skin). What this product doesn’t have is: Parabens, Sulfates, Synthetic Fragrances, Synthetic Dyes, Petrochemicals, Phthalates, GMOs. or Triclosan.
This little amber-colored glass bottle of serum delivered with a stopper is advertised as a serum-oil, but it won’t make you break out. It’s also easily absorbed. All you have to do is use 2-3 drops (or more) massaged into face, neck and décollete, twice a day, after cleansing, and before moisturizer and makeup. I can’t say for sure that it will make your skin healthier, but serums are concentrated, and many of these ingredients in this product are sure-fire winners, proven to be hydrating, protecting, anti-aging, and helpful to skin. Together, they could make a powerful difference in how your skin looks, feels, and ages. Visit the Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare web site or other skincare web sites.
Finally, I’ve been remiss in reviewing Anew Genics. It’s not super-new, as it debuted during Fashion Week at The Daily Lounge, and it’s not because I didn’t think it was good. The Advice Sisters just weren’t focusing on anti-aging skincare for a couple of months, and then I broke my right hand and had to slow my reviews to a crawl. But it is still exciting, so let me tell you about Anew Genics Treatment Cream. This skincare breakthrough was a decade in development, and it has cutting edge ingredients, but it’s just $38.00 for a precious ounce. The claim is that ANEW Genics Treatment Cream, with patented YouthGen™ Technology, will help you look10 years younger (based on a study of women 45-49). The inspiration, apparently, was a University study in Italy of people who led extremely long lives. The study revealed that some people who live longer (past 100) have a highly active Youth Gene – one that is inside all of us. So Avon scientists partnered with these researchers to discover a link between the Youth Gene and skin. They used that information and created ANEW Genics. What makes it special is Avon’s YouthGen™ Technology – designed to stimulate the Youth Gene to help skin cells act younger. All you have to do is fork over $40 and use the cream at night, and for most people, that’s pretty do-able. The elegant, amber colored jar with silver top has a rich cream that tingles a bit and has a bit of an after-smell, but not an unpleasant one. I don’t like to stick my fingers into jars, but perhaps Avon felt that the consistency required a jar, not an oxygen-free pump. You can get a list of the ingredients on the Avon Web Site.
After one dose, my skin looked fine, and in a few days it felt a lot smoother. In 4 weeks it is supposed to make a dramatic difference with discolorations and wrinkles noticeably reduced, and over time, skin can look much younger — maybe. I can’t say for sure how your skill will look or feel. The results depend upon your age, skin condition, health and other factors. But Avon makes great skincare and the company’s scientists know what they’re doing. Amazingly, breakthrough skincare that usually comes at a high price, has always been available to everyone at reasonable cost, through Avon. That’s something to smile about. Nearly10,000 ANEW products are sold every hour, according to Avon — that’s pretty impressive, too.WHERE TO BUY: Anew Genics is available exclusively through Avon Representatives. or online
