3 Awesomely Unique Sandals for Different Personalities: Treat Your Feet!
Spring 2016 has been one of the frostiest seasons on record in the United States, but no matter what the weather, we predict that the Summer sun will arrive and the mercury will rise and we will shed our shoes for sandals. The Advice Sisters selected three pairs of sandals that are not just unique in form, but also in function. Which pair is for you?
Ipamena with Starck @ There is no better way to make a statement than with a pair of sandals that is a show stopping work of art. We can’t think of any pair of sandals more spectacular than the new Ipanema with STARCK collaboration designed by acclaimed design guru, Philippe Starck. These sandals are far from common flip-flops. Designed for Brazilian shoe brand, Ipanema, the flip-flop is re-imagined, in this collection, in black and white color combos and in nature-inspired colors like grass, smoke, and melon. Off your feet, these sandals look like you should put them on display, and on your feet, a big toe button as a knuckle ring that swivels, slightly, looks like toe jewelry. The slim band across the middle holds the For Those Who Admire Art, Beauty and Fashion: flip flop on securely in one fluid line, a bracelet for your upper foot. The sandals are constructed of 70% new material (PVC) 30% recycled material (PVC) and yes, since they’re for the brand Ipanema, they’re made in Brazil. These are not hiking sandals. We envision them more as objects of envy as you lounge at the pool or a pool party, as that large toe button can be somewhat irritating to sensitive skin on the big and adjoining toe. But if you aren’t terribly sensitive, or you’re just sitting and styling, you will be the envy of everyone around you. You’d probably expect to pay a fortune for these beautiful and unique sandals, but they retail for a mere $30-$40 and are available at chic retailers like Opening Ceremony and Alchemist and 20 Corso Como. You know they’re going to sell out, fast.
Therafit @TherafitShoe For Those Who Want Style, but Must Walk Comfortably: If you’re someone who will be standing, walking, waiting on lines, shopping, and just on your feet a lot, you need shoes that will support your feet. Therafit has fitness footwear that makes this easy. But when it comes to sandals, Therafit knows you don’t want to sacrifice style for comfort. That’s why we like Therafit’s Flora Sandal (srp. $109.00). that offers a cute style you can wear with just about anything, but it has the supportive footwear design that is unique to Therafit. Whether they are sneakers or sandals, all the Therafit footwear is designed to give the wearer support and cushioning that can be personalized through the use of three little plugs at the heel. The shoes and sandals might make a fashion statement but they’re serious footwear that protect your feet, provide all day comfort and also relief from arch pain, heel pain, plantar fasciitis, pronation, and other kinds of issues that can cause foot pain.Looking at the Flora Sandal, you wouldn’t know there’s anything high tech about it, but you’ll know once you start walking in the sandals. The flower-studded leather top comes in a variety of colors, and even the footbed is decorated with a delicate floral pattern, but at the heel, there are the three dual-density adapters within a shock-absorbing wedge (for Flora, these are in cute flower shapes)..This is the unique Therafit Personal Comfort System (PCS) Technology that lets you adjust the shoe’s impact resistance and cushioning by removing one, two or all three of the comfort adapters. Tip: the shoes get bouncier and sponge-ier as you remove the adapters. Every time you pull out or put in one of the plugs, you get a different feeling from the exact same shoe which is great. There is also an Aegis Microbe Shield interior that protects against odor, staining, and deterioration that might be caused by fungus, bacteria and other gross microorganisms you don’t want on your skin! The shoe design has a patented technology that uses multiple layers of cushioning and support with varying densities inside each and every shoe, so the shock of each step is distributed downward and outward. The result is extremely comfortable shoes and sandals that really cushion your feet. This is just one of many styles that show that comfort shoes don’t have to be “boring.” Flora sandal also features Therafit’s shock absorbing midsoles, contoured footbed with arch support, and deep heel-cups that stabilize and support your foot plus the Aegis Microbe Shield treatment on lining material to help prevent mold and bacteria. As you can see from the photo, there is also a durable rubber outsole done in a cute floral pattern, but it’s also designed to grip the floor. If you like thong sandals, this pretty little Flora with a bouquet of leather flowers will delight you. With a 1.5” heel height and a 7.2 oz. ounce weight it’s not really an evening shoe, but you could get away with wearing it almost anywhere that’s not outright formal. OOFOS @ For the Athlete: “Training for your first marathon: Your Feet Earned This” is one of the tag lines of OOFOS. You don’t have to be an athlete to love OOFOS footwear, but their patented footbed design made of a proprietary material called OOfoam absorbs more impact than traditional foam and gives relieves feet that have taken a “pounding. Discovered by the Advice Sisters at the SHE’s Fit, SHE’s Beautiful event in NYC, a display included not just the thong sandals shown above, but slides, and cute, colorful clogs (amazingly comfortable -great for nurses, chefs, anyone who has to stand a lot). According to the creators of OOFOS, the upper gives wearers not just style but a lot of arch support. Furthermore, athletic shoe foams are designed to “rebound” and propel you forward but OOfoam does the opposite, absorbing 37% more shock with every step than traditional footwear foam. It is also moisture and bacteria-resistant and you can wear it in the shower. In fact, you can even wash it in a washing machine. An OOFOS flip flop style sandal (the OOLA Thong) has their patented footbed with a lot of arch support to take the pressure off of your ankles, knees, hips, and lower back. All of the OOFOS styles have another bonus: the design of the base is gently curved so it rocks slightly and is biomechanically designed to flex with both your foot and the ground, to allow your foot to move naturally. When your feet and joints have been taking a pounding on hard surfaces, whether it’s during a run, a workout or simply standing and walking, wearing OOFOS gives them a chance to recover. There are other styles of OOFOS on their web site and also some styles for men. For after-workout comfort we choose the OOLA slide ($59.95) shown above in cloud white. Add a pair of OOFOS to your footwear wardrobe to give your tired feet a break. To learn more Visit the OOFOS web site OOFOS web site
