True Story: Back in the early 1990’s, I was on a Caribbean cruise and it rained steadily for days. If someone cries, my hair frizzes from the humidity, so my first stop when I got to the lovely island of St. Barth’s, was a pharmacy on the main street. My French is horrible, but some things need no explanation. I walked up the the counter, and the man standing there knew exactly what I wanted before I said a word. Silently, he pointed to a tube of Phytodéfrisant Botanical Hair Relaxing Balm $35.00 (5.9 Fl. oz size) by Phyto.
I paid for my purchase, put my hair in a tight ponytail for the rest of my day on the Island, and when I got back to my cruise ship cabin, I immediately applied washed my hair and then applied some of the product from that precious tube of Phyto Paris Phytodefrisant for (as the label says) “unruly, frizzy, and rebellious hair.” With a bit of blow drying, finally, my hair once again was tamed to shiny, sleek, smooth without a sticky or greasy coating. You can smooth a bit on dry hair to tame flyways, too. This began my serious love affair with Phytodéfrisant.
There are other good anti-frizz products, but this one is a leave-in, alcohol-free anti-frizz styling balm gives incredible results every time. It is made with 99% botanical ingredients too, including mallow, ferula, sage, horseradish, and chamomile matricaria extracts to soothe and smooth. What it doesn’t have are nasty chemicals, such as parabens, Sulfates, Synthetic Fragrances, Synthetic Dyes, Petrochemicals, or Phthalates,
Interestingly, although you’ll get the anti-frizz benefits immediately, the straightening effect is cumulative with continued use. Also, a little bit goes a long way, but it doesn’t weight hair down like some of the heavier silicone products do. It moisturizes, protects, and calms the frizz. What more could you want?!
I love this product so much, I was delighted to try to more from fabulous Phyto, Paris. The tempting trio of treats to tame frizz and pamper hair are the Advice Sisters Weekly Obsession for this special, holiday week.
Another nourishing treat from Phyto Paris is the Subtil Elixir Intesne Nutrition and Shine oil ($38.00 2.5 fl. oz.). It’s for dry to ultra dry hair, and contains egg yolk, wheat germ, karanja and camellia oils. Egg yolk helps to revitalize with proteins, camellila oil hyudrates, karajnka oil nourishes, repairs and protects, and corn germ oil regenerates.
The instructions say that it is a leave in oil,and I would leave it in if I was at the beach, or in the house and planning to wash my hair later in the day. But if you look at the directions, they are to apply the oil onto hair lengths and ends (not directly on scalp and roots). Massage it in, leave on for 10 minutes (or more if you wish) and then rise thoroughly, shampoo and style.
I can see this products being a real boon if someone’s hair is very frizzy, porous, and coarse. This products will really help to tame and condition it. My hair seems to drink in oil-based treatments to the point where I have problems getting my hair clean. But if your hair is dry and damaged, sensitive, tortured, or you have a lot of split and broken ends and pieces, or if you are a person of color with a hair that has been continually straightened or heat styled, or you’re growing your hair out to natural, this treatment may help to make the transition healthier and easier, and possibly, shorten it by reducing breakage. A little goes a long way, keeping your investment around for hair TLC longer. I also liked the light and unobtrusive fragrance of banana leaf, passion flower, gardenia and exotic musk notes.
Joy! Joy! And there’s yet another nifty Phyto Paris treatment for hair; Secret De Nuit ($38.00 2.5 fl. oz.) is an intense hydration regenerating balm for your hair that you while you sleep. Really great is the fact that it this product nourishes and also helps to combat free radicals and hair oxidation on your hair. It treats your hair to overnight TLC and arrives in a striking blue pump bottle with metallic lettering. Suitable for all hair types, but especially hair that has been fried, baked, abused, exposed to sun, environmental saboteurs, chemicals and more, you’ll be left with hair that feels regenerated, hydrated and detangled.
Those who insist upon natural products will love that this one is formulated with 92% natural ingredients and is free from silicones and parabens. However, the lightweight liquid is enriched with encapsulated macadamia oil, and ceramides, black orchid extracts and milk thistle to soften and detangle hair. This luxurious overnight conditioner is lightweight and can be used on wet or dry hair – no need to rinse it out. I was a bit confused when the instructions informed me it can be used on towel-dried hair after shampooing because it is a leave in conditioner. Frankly, I’m wondering how many of us like going to bed with damp hair? Fortunately, you can use it on dry hair too. A hazelnut-sized amount applied through the length and ends of the hair (again, I’d avoid the scalp and roots) will be absorbed as you sleep, giving your hair 8 hours to absorb the beautifying benefits (as long as you don’t wash it out for that length of time). If you need more, you can repeat the process 2-3 times (a week) but if you use it regularly you’ll see nice results. You are not supposed to rinse, so personally, I’m going to apply this on the nights when I am not doing anything special the next day, or I’m wearing my hair in a bun or ponytail, or I’m going out in the sun and wearing a hat. You will immediately feel it silken your hair, and it smells lovely with a bit of floral fragrance (but nothing too intrusive). This is truly a spa-style pampering product from one of my favorites, Phyto Paris.
