Now that Spring is around the corner, there is no need for me to stay silent any longer. There is a wonderful color cosmetics collection, and the rest of the launches are skincare oriented. I will split my review into two parts. This review contains my picks for new and unique face and body products from Shiseido, I know you will want to try:
For me, the most essential product for skin is a good SPF sun protection. Shiseido’s new Urban Environment UV Protection Cream SPF 35 PA+++ for Face and Body $30.00 1.8 fl. oz. is the top of my Shiseido picks, debuting this month. This lightweight but powerful day cream helps protect your skin against UVA/UVB rays as you go about your day. But while the water-resistant skin screen can be used on face and body, it’s more than just sun protection. It also employs advanced sun care technology to moisturize and protect against dryness, oxidative pollutants, and UVA/UVB rays that cause photo-aging, spots, and wrinkles. It’s invisible on your skin, and it won’t leave a chalky film, so you can wear this as-is, or under your makeup. Worthy of note is that it is dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested. I really like the light, fresh scent, and the fact that it is packaged in a slim, flip-top tube that makes it perfect for travel. The active ingredients are: Hydro-Restoring Complex: Contains nourishing amino acids that naturally exist in the skin to provide intense moisture; Thiotaurine: Protects against oxidative stressors found in daily life; Rose Apple Leaf Extract: Prevents DNA damage that can lead to skin cancer and weakening of immune system; and Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract: Protects against damage to fibroblasts. The active sun-protection ingredients include: 4.9% Octinoxate, 3% Octocrylene and 6.7% zinc oxide. The product will retain it’s SPF, even after 40 minutes of perspiring, but you won’t have a challenge, removing it. You really need to re-apply sunscreen regularly, but at least this will keep your skin protected for a longer period of time. There’s a lot more I could say about this product, but I hope you’ll discover it’s benefits for yourself. It’s a “must-have” for women and men — well worth the cost.
What else is new for Spring? Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist 24, a preventative and restorative line targeted at women in their 40s. If I counted correctly, there are seven different products in this collection (although the photo shows only four). Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 is a complete line of skincare products that contains a breakthrough ingredient, mukurossi extract, which directly inhibits the activity of a wrinkle-triggering enzyme. Without getting too technical, the mukurossi extract, along with Chlorella Extract (a single-cell freshwater algae) and Gambir Extract (from a shrub grown in India) work together to rsist damage and smooth wrinkles while keeping new ones at bay. Theoretically, if you start using this product early enough, your skin will be more resistant to future signs of aging, while existing wrinkles are visibly improved. The product I like best in this line is the Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Day Cream SPF 15 PA++ ($52.00 1.8 fl. oz). It is a daytime moisturizer packaged in an elegant, pearly jar with shiny golden top. Inside is a rich moisturizer that uses technology and three unique ingredients to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and keep skin hydrated all day long. The SPF 15 is not tremendous, but it’s enough to afford some protection if you are not really going to be exposed to a significant amount of the sun’s rays (e.g. walking to the subway or your car). The active sun protection is 4.9% Octinoxiate and 5% Octocrylene. There is also a Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Night Cream $55.00 1.7 fl. oz. to keep the wrinkle defense, going 24/7. Also superb in this line is the luxurious, Extra Creamy Cleansing Foam $35.00 4.4 fl. oz. Housed in a flip-top tube, this creamy cleanser foams nicely when you add water (and you need just a little bit). I have never been a fan of creamy cleansers, until I found this one. If it’s possible to be in love with a cleanser, I’ve found my true love. The cleanser is moisturizing and gentle, but it washes off completely, leaving your skin feeling refreshed, most, and smooth, without any residue. It just makes me feel pampered to use it. I dont’ care what age you are, if you want a great cleanser, this one is it! At the initial launch showcase, I sampled the other products in this line as well, including a day and a night “Emulsion,” ($52.00 and $55.00) and a “Balancing Softener” ($44.00 5 oz. and $72.00 10 oz.). These are superior products and if you fit the age range and skin profile, this is skincare you’ll want to seriously consider.
Coming up in APRIL (just days away) are some luxurious Shiseido Body Care Products. Shiseido’s first body product was created in the 1950’s, in Japan. It took a while, but Shiseido finally launched its body care range on a global scale, in 1985! Shiseido’s products are inspired by Eastern medicinal philosophy and a focus on harmonizing and balancing the body.
One of the most difficult body issues to deal with is cellulite. My experience with products that claim to reduce cellulite haven’t always been positive. You really need to work on cellulite for a long time, and consistently. It gets tiring, and expensive. But Shiseido has a new, Advanced Body Creator Aromatic Sculpting Gel Anti Cellulite $57.50 6.7 fl. oz. is worthy of your consideration. The product arrives in a pearly flip top bottle, which dispenses a cooling gel with a light and pleasing scent of grapefruit oil and spices that might have you wanting to use it more often as this aromatherapy scent promotes optimism! The gel features a “Sculpting Plant Complex” that comvines Poria Cocos Extract (helps to reduce puffiness and acts as an anti-inflammatory), and Caffeine that boost fat-burning proteins UCP3 and UCP1, while enhancing fat-burning and fat breakdown. Other exotric ingredients in this fel include a “microcirculation-improving complex” of Western Hawthorn Extract and y-oryzano (extracted from rice) to improve microcirculation and help prevent the apeparance of more cellulite. Fagus Sylvatica Extract from beech trees, acts on fibroblasts to promote collagen production. This all sounds good, and smoothing this luxurious gel on your body once a day certainly can’t hurt. The technical information I got with the product was extensive — too extensive to do more than encapsulate it in this review. But the bottom line (pardon the pun) is that cellulite is hard to banish and nearly impossible to prevent. Using this product might help, as long as you have the time and the patience.
More immediate results will be accomplished with Shiseido’s new Replenishing Body Cream ($60.00 7.2 oz) and Refinishing Body Exfoliator. The former arrives in a sleek looking jar with sloped, domed lid. Inside there is a jasmine-scented firming body cream that has Yuzu seed extract to promote collagen & hyaluronic acid production . This product too, claim to reduce cellulite promote elasticity of the skin. Even if it didn’t make your body look sleeker, it is still a lovely body cream. The Body Exfoliator $50.00 7.4 fl. oz is a must-have to keep skin smooth and soft, and this is especially essential as the seasons change. Unless your skin is very sensitive, you need to encourage cell turnover by exfoliating face and body at least once a week. If you like to use self-tanners, you must use a good exfoliator before applying the product, or you’ll get an uneven result. For all these reasons. The Shiseido Refining Body Exfoliator is a lovely, splurge-worthy product. The scent is a delicate Japanese scent “KUROHO” and an elegant Cherry Blossom fragrance that seems very feminine, but the exfoliation is not at all wimpy, it’s quite thorough, thanks to specially-designed micro beads. The product refines and smoothes skin texture and softens, brightens and evens skin tone while moisturizing your skin. It is truly fabulous. My only complaint? It has a screw on/off top instead of a flip top, making it slippery to use in the bath or shower. Yes, it’s a little pricey, but your skin will look and feel pampered, and you’ll love the scent!
