A Travel Dress That’s Better Than Ever: An alternative to the LBD (little black dress) can be more than” just a dress. For example, the Brittany Travel Shirt Dress $ 188.00 from the Meredith Banzhoff Collection is a luxuriously silky dress that can be accessorized up or down but it has something else that makes us love it all the more . Meredith Banzhoff has added fabric that has UV protectant. That means you can wear it even when you’re in the sun, and know that your skin is being shielded. No one will know this. They’ll just think you’re wearing an elegant shirt dress with pearl buttons. What you’ll know is the secret: your dress is crafted of high-performance fabric that we tested and found to be wrinkle free, moisture wicking, and of course UPF protectant. If you’re looking for something really dramatic, or to cover you from head to toe, try the long version, which is the Amelia Travel Dress ($275.00) that is 56″ from shoulder seam to hem with roll-up tab sleeves. It’s available in white, sea blue, or black. These are also machine wash cold, tumble dry low. With the right shoes and jewelry, this can take you from the beach to a meeting to dinner. A visit to the Meredith Banzhoff Web Site gives you more UPF safe clothing such as the Camille Shirt Dress ($242.00 similar but shorter with a more defined waist) and there’s also a Liz Sleeveless top, ALL UV Protectant. *Note, in our tests the Brittany dress was form fitting and ran slightly small, so if you’re “curvy” consider going one size up.
Made in the USA, the company launched in 2013 with a collection of sophisticated shirting options for women, designer Meredith Banzhoff realized that there was a need for women’s perfectly fitted shirts. Now she makes clothing featuring ‘shirting-inspired’ blouses and dresses made of machine washable natural fibers and performance (wrinkle free, UV protectant, moisture wicking) fabrics. It’s your perfect travel companion day to night.
Get Really Good Lingerie: Summer fabrics tend to be more lightweight and sheer, but unless you deliberately want your undies to show, get a bra that offers shape, support and comfort. There’s just about nothing worse than underwear that pinches, binds, slips, bunches, rolls or just doesn’t look good under your clothes. The Magic Boost Bra by Triumph Lift Up Bra SKU #10157606 (srp. $64.00) in nude or black is your all-purpose, go-to bra tee-shirt type bra that lifts and shapes, and gives you a smooth line under everything you might want to wear. The design covers you but is still low enough not to reveal itself with blouses and dresses that dip down a bit. The wide straps offer comfort, especially in warmer weather when your body tends to swell and be annoyingly dripping off your shoulder as you’re racing to make the train or plane. The nude color works well for light colors and white, offering modesty if you need it. The bra is washable by hand (put it in a lingerie bag if you must use a washing machine) and easy to dry in 48% Nylon, 37% Polyester, 15% Spandex; There is a wide range of sizes from 32b TO 3F. There is a matching Tai Brief ($36.00). Obviously, Triumph makes tons of styles — we just picked this one as being universally useful under the most clothing items, but their sexier styles…ooh la la! Chic and Mightly Multi-Tasking Shoes: When you’re traveling, you might want to take lots of shoes to match outfits, but your luggage will say “uh, NO!” The good news is that you can approximate it with Kara Mac’s Shoe Candy, simply by switching out the toes and heels of her various sandals and shoes with accessories. A clever design and comfortably styled pumps, flats and sandals make the magic happen. I was so entranced with this idea after seeing the display of these shoes at a recent Editor’s Showcase that I begged for a pair right then to take to France, and the great people from Kara Mac made it happen. My patent leather Party Flats are low heeled for walking all over the place, but they got dressed up for dinner dressed with rhinestone buckles and heel bling in Epernay, they went shopping in Paris and showed off their comfort and class on the Metro dressed down with black leather accessories. There are so many different things you can do with these shoes, from butterflies to serious bling. The options are nearly unlimited. All you do is pop off the heel accessories and push on another in seconds, ditto for a slot in the top of the shoe for a toe ornament. Since I needed extra room in my suitcase for “necessities” (4 bottles of champagne, for example), the fact that one pair of shoes Kara Mac Shoe Candy shoes helped me make it through an entire week (with just a pair of walking shoes as a backup) was a real plus. The Prima Pump is a new pointy toe design with a higher heel from KarMac ShoeCandy that would work with more formal dresses, The Betty Boot and Broadway Boot ankle length ($159.00) are for boot lover, and there are several styles of sandals I have my eye on including the Kara Mac Shoe Candy Celebrity Sandal, a dressy metallic style great for brides and bridal parties. All of these have the ability to switch the accessories for a new look in seconds. The designers have been in the fashion industry for a long time, and they know what they are doing. Prices for ShoeCandy start at just $89.00 with accessories at $12.00 and up. Yes, I’m obsessed! Delicacies Lobster BraceletBring A Bracelet (or two, or three): I just learned that even the digital travel safes in hotel rooms really aren’t well…safe. So don’t bring jewelry you can’t afford to lose, or that will set off alarm bells at the security checkpoints, or that is bulky or could break or weight down your suitcase. Check out Delicacies, cute bracelets in genuine sterling silver with Italian leather created by chef and TV personality Andrew Zimmern and Delicacies Chief Designer, Nicolle Nelson,. These delicate but colorful bracelets feature a single talisman, an ingredient such as chickens, octopus, lobsters, pigs, and cows to artichoke, chili, corn, carrots, pineapple, and grapes. Our pick was the Delicacies Lobster Bracelet ($75.00) also available in white, natural and black. The lobster promotes Protection, Renewal, Strength & Perseverance. This bracelet is very slim, just about the width of a strand of thick spaghetti and fastens with a silver buckle. A thicker version is $10 more and fastens with two silver studs. It is also stitched around the sides. If you plan to stack a few of these, or wear them with other bracelets, pick the slimmer one, but if you plan to wear just one bracelet, you’ll want the thicker one. There are also gold pendants available($180.00+). Another cute thing is that your bracelet will arrive in a glass jelly jar which is totally re-useable and this makes a really cute gift idea. Additionally, Delicacies partners with generous, high-profile chefs, to fight hunger. Every piece of Delicacies Jewelry purchased creates “Delicacies Dollars” — that is, money donated directly to a nonprofit organization that fights hunger and food insecurity. Each year, Delicacies partners with three well-known, talented chefs who comprise a Chef’s Table, the conduit for our charitable giving. It ‘s a really cool idea, real jewelry but not so pricey you would be afraid to wear it. You’ll look chic when you travel wearing one or more and they’re conversations starters if you’re traveling solo. See all the delectable Delicacies at http://delicaciesjewelry.com/
A perfect Necklace: Pearls are a classic, but a simple strand is kind of bland, and you aren’t going to want to take delicate genuine pearls on the road with you. But the Carolee High Line Tassel Necklace, ($75.00) makes a statement, without being so pricey you will be afraid to wear it or lose it. The faux pearl rope looks lustrous and elegant in peach, white or gold-toned pearls. My personal favorite is this peach rope because it flatters all skin tones so well. This High Line Peach Pearl Tassel Necklace (Style#:CLN00317G830) has graduated round pearls with tiny spacers in a 30″ strand. At the bottom are larger oval shaped pearls that combine with six 6″strings of pearl “tassel” tied in a knot. A romantic touch is a heart-shaped lobster claw clasp with a tiny golden heart dangle. You can double the rope for a choker, or wear it long and flapper style. This necklace has a Worldwide Lifetime Guarantee and it will go with almost everything. With a gorgeous rope necklace like this, all you need are earrings, and you’re accessorized. For a lot more fabulous faux choices, visit the Carolee website http://www.carolee.com
A great ID-ea: Constantly pulling out your ID gets tiring, but the Lillybee by Skout Dakota ID Carrier $25.00 is so cheerful and colorful you’ll find it easily in your purse. You can also show school (or team) spirit with them as they come in a huge variety of color combos. We discovered Lillybee at an Editor’s Showcase (thanks Alyson Dutch). I couldn’t believe how adorable these striped and dotted bags items were displayed on a table, and can get coordinating wristlets( $35.00) and crossbody bags ($55.00). If that’s not enough “preppy cute” for you, there are boots and sandals, and a lot more. The photo ID above shows my college, Syracuse University, complete with an enameled “S” charm, and you can also add other charms, because the zipper pulls are interchangeable. This little ID carrier is great for credit cards, IDs, and keys plus a zippered pocket for change. The ID case is textured vegan leather so it’s water resistant and wipes clean. There’s a key clasp (for that room key you don’t want to lose) and it’s a petite 5″ (W) X 3″ (H). The clear window makes it easy to show your ID at the security checkpoint. I love the spirit of the co-founders and of the brand, and for every 1,000 Lillybee by Scout bags sold, Lillybee is donating 1,000 wildflower seeds to the farming North Carolina-based, non-profit, RAFI to help save honeybees! Bees are super pollinators and without them, we’dhave far less fruits and Veggies. Healthy bee bites will be planted near farming communities that best stand to benefit from a thriving bee population. Cute and charitable –what’s not to love about this brand?! The Be-All and End-All of Trench Coats: When I wear the SeV Women’s Trench Coat/Raincoat from Scott E Vest ($175.00) I always feel slightly mysterious, like a spy in a James Bond movie or maybe Inspector Gadget! The raincoat looks chic, especially in black or classic beige, but there’s a secret in this coat that only you can see. SCOTTeVest makes clothing for men and women with up to 42 pockets in a single garment, so you can carry a handbag’s worth of items on your body, without anyone being the wiser. It’s a chic way to secure the things you use the most, without calling attention to them. In addition to pockets, SCOTTeVEST clothing has tons of useful features, including the patented PAN (personal area network), RFID-blocking pockets, iPad pockets, clear-touch pockets, ID pockets, key holders, eyeglass chamois, Teflon fabric protector, no bulge pocket technology and much more. It’s like Burberry and Bill Gate’s had a love child and it’s a raincoat! Although I selected the black version of the SeV Women’s Trench Coat because black doesn’t show dirt when you travel quite as much, the photos shows it in “Mist” (it is also available in red, black mud, paprika and periwinkle) . With 18 pockets staggered throughout the exterior and interior, you practically need a road map to know where to put things. Don’t feel obligated to use all of them at once, but I particularly liked the Handwarmer Pocker X2 with a water bottle holder and extendable key holder and the eyeglass and Chamois pocket (because sunglasses don’t always live on the top of heads). There’s also a great Digital Camera pocket with a place to put memory cards (how clever)! The Raincoat is available in Small, Medium, Large, XL and XXL. Thinking that I’d need more room if I was stuffing the pockets with many things, I went up a size but the trenchcoat fits true to size even with nearly all the pockets full. It is fully linked and honestly, even with the pockets stuffed, I didn’t look “bulky.” The DWR Nano poly fabric is water and stain resistant and the trench coat is machine washable fabric, but it feels luxe and silky, not “plastic-y”. I would hand wash it (never dry clean) and use a lingerie bag if you machine wash it (tumble dry low heat). While I don’t recommend wearing your entire handbag on your body, it’s a great way to enjoy and afternoon “out and about” hand-free or if you get stuck having to unload items from your carry on when you are stuck gate-checking it at the last minute (as if this hasn’t happened to you if you’re stuck in “Zone 4.). Of course, if it actually rains it is a raincoat as well. it is a bargain at just $175.00. There are 17 different ScotteVest styles for women including vests, pants and sweaters. There’s one for you! For more information and to see all the styles for men as well, visit the SCOTTeVest Website http://www.scottevest.com/
